The Spark That Set Chilpancingo ablaze
Once again, impunity hovers over a victim and her family, calling into question Governor Evelyn Cecia Salgado Pineda’s alleged commitment to the mother and student representatives.
For many, this already raised serious suspicions about the way in which the mother of student Yanqui Rothan Gómez Peralta and representatives of the Ayotzinapa students had reached a negotiation with the State Governor. Many were wondering who had induced them to go to such senseless extremes of negotiating justice for a student who had been vilely executed. We recall that someone with some influence among the students had shared with us the comment made: “This was a perfect fit for us; we must negotiate as much as possible.” Of course, in our good faith, we did not believe such vileness existed. Ultimately, we believe that, in the final analysis, it is up to the family members of the murdered student and the students to decide how far they consider they should go regarding the right to justice. They could even worthily opt solely for legal means but end up betraying the memory of a student murdered by state agents.
But the news delivered by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during his morning press conference about the escape of the police officer, identified as the alleged murderer of the student, unleashed anger and helplessness among the students, who felt deceived and cheated upon learning that government structures and the Ministry of Public Security had orchestrated the escape of the state police officer, a member of the Centauro group, the alleged murderer who was under the protection of the State Police of the State Secretariat of Public Security, even though the case had already been taken over by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) on instructions from the President of the Republic.
Despite the above, the governor met with the mother of Yanqui Khotan Gómez Peralta and with the student committee of the normal school, where she expressed “her commitment to do everything necessary to ensure that these events do not go unpunished.”
Breaking News: The resignation of Secretary of Public Security, General Rolando Solano Rivera, Attorney General Sandra Luz Valdovinos Salmerón, and Secretary General of Government, Ludwig Marcial Reynoso Nuñez, has been announced, although this has not been officially confirmed.
Now it is once again up to the President of the Republic to fulfill his commitment that the execution of Ayotzinapa Normal School student Yanqui Rothan Gómez Peralta will not go unpunished and that the police officer presumed to be the material perpetrator of this execution will be located. We only hope that it will not be the same as his commitment to the mothers and fathers of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students, who, as his term nears its end, are still holding out hope that he will fulfill his promise.
As the José Ma. Morelos y Pavón Regional Human Rights Defense Center, we will continue to monitor the progress of the investigations and express our full support for the mothers’ and fathers’ legal representatives, who are members of the Tlachinollan Mountain Human Rights Center and the Miguel Agustín Pro Júarez Human Rights Center.
- We also reject President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s intention to condition the dialogue with the parents on the condition that their legal representatives not participate in the meeting, as this seeks to isolate the parents and possibly make material or economic demands to discourage them from their struggle.
- We continue to demand the delivery of the 800 pages held by the army and the other demands.
- At the same time, we hold the President of the Republic, the State Governor, and the factual power groups responsible for any attacks suffered by the representatives of the mothers and fathers of the 43 missing students.
Sincerely,
Teodomira Rosales Sierra
General Director of the Morelos Center
